The Rules

NOTE: Proper category submission (per entry) are determined by the final hair texture presented in the submitted image. All entrants are permitted to submit images utilizing hair accessories and hair extensions.

ENTRANT CATEGORIES: Eligible entrants may submit photographs that showcase works for the following four hairstyling categories (each a “Category” or collectively the “Categories”):

  • Straight: Down Style- Hairstyles with a finished look on hair that is styled to showcase straight and sleek looks, with no visible curl pattern.
    • Ex: Naturally curly or coily hair that has been styled to be straight would fall under this category. 66 percent of the hair must be down.
  • Straight: Up Style- Hairstyles with a finished look on hair that is styled to showcase straight and sleek looks, with no visible curl pattern.
    • Ex: Naturally wavy hair that has been styled to be straight and into un upstyle would fall under this category. 66 percent of the hair must be up.
  • Wavy: Down Style- Hairstyles with a finished look on hair that is styled to showcase large and loose waves, often in an “S” shape.
    • Ex: Beachy or surfer waves or hair that has been waved with an S waving iron. 66 percent of the hair must be down.
  • Wavy: Up Style- Hairstyles with a finished look on hair that is styled to showcase large and loose waves, often in an “S” shape.
    • Ex: Think of wavy hair pinned up into an upsweep with wavy hair tendrils. 66 percent of the hair must be up.
  • Curly: Down Style- Hairstyles with a finished look on hair that is styled to showcase tighter curl patterns with a springy shape and defined ringlets. 66 percent of the hair must be down.
    • Ex: Naturally wavy hair has been curled with a 1 inch or 3/8th inch curling iron to appear curly in it’s final style.
  • Curly: Up Style- Hairstyles with a finished look on hair that is styled to showcase tighter curl patterns with a springy shape and defined ringlets. 66 percent of the hair must be up.
    • Ex: Naturally straight hair has been set on 1 inch or 5/8th inch rollers to appear curly in it’s final upstyle.
  • Coily: Down Style- Hairstyles with a finished look on hair that is styled to showcase coily and tightly curled hair with coils that are pencil-width or tighter or z-textured or tightly crimped styles. 66 percent of the hair must be down.
    • Ex: Hair that is naturally wavy set on 3/8 inch flexi rods or curled with a tiny curling wand and styled into a down style.
  • Coily: Up Style- Hairstyles with a finished look on hair that is styled to showcase coily and tightly curled hair with coils that are pencil-width or tighter or z-textured or tightly crimped styles. 66 percent of the hair must be up.
    • Ex: Hair that is naturally coily styled into an upstyle.
  • Student: Down Style- must be completed by an entrant in cosmetology school, working as an apprentice, or working in the cosmetology field under 2 years.
    • 66 percent of the hair must be down
    • Entrant may submit an image with any of the hair textures in a down style.
    • Model’s final look can be displayed on the model’s natural hair texture or hair texture can be altered.
  • Student: Up Style must be completed by an entrant in cosmetology school, working as an apprentice, or working in the cosmetology field under 2 years.
    • 66 percent of the hair must be down
    • Entrant may submit an image with any of the hair textures in an up style.
    • Model’s final look can be displayed on the model’s natural hair texture or hair texture can be altered.

 

SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS: Cosmetologists may submit up to three entries per each of the eight categories. Submitted photos must showcase hairstyles that accurately reflect the Submission’s Category.

Normal processing of the original file is acceptable, however, extreme hair manipulation will result in entrant disqualification. Photo retouching of the hairline, color, or shape is not allowed and will be subject to disqualification.

STUDENT ENTRAINTS: Style must be completed by an entrant in cosmetology school, working as an apprentice, or working in the cosmetology field under 2 years.

SPONSOR: The Textures Style Awards is sponsored by Monae Artistry, LLC (“Sponsor”). By entering, you understand that you are providing your information to Monae Artistry, LLC (MALLC).

SUBMISSIONS PERIOD: The Monae Life Academy’s Texture Style Awards Competition (the “Contest”) entry period begins on March 1, at 12:00:01 a.m. EST and ends on July 9, 11:59:00 p.m. EST (the “Contest Period”)

ELIGIBILITY: The Contest is open to legal residents of the 50 United States, and the District of Columbia, and Canada who are at least eighteen (18) years old, and have a valid cosmetologist license and/or work as a hairstylist (ex: an on-set hairstylist). Students are defined as cosmetology students, hair assistants, apprentices, or new hair stylists working in the field for under 2 years.  (“Entrant” or “You”). Employees, officers, and directors of Sponsor, Administrator, Agency, and each of their affiliated companies, subsidiaries, licensees, distributors, dealers, sales representatives, retailers, printers, individuals engaged in the development, production or distribution of materials, their Advertising and Contest agencies, and any and all other companies associated with the Contest agents (collectively, the “Contest Entities”), and each of their immediate family members and/or people living in the same household are not eligible to enter or win. All eligibility is subject to all federal, state and local laws and regulations.

HOW TO ENTER: Register online by visiting the website at texturestyleawards.com, follow online registration prompts and complete all submission fields, including (i) uploading one final and one behind the scenes image taken by you (“Photo”); (ii) uploading the Photo(s) as instructed, including labeling files with your name and including on the submittable form your full name, address, email, and telephone number along with a link to your website, a short bio and caption information; and (iii) payment of the Fee at the time of uploading high res image(s). All Photos and entry forms shall be collectively referred to herein as “Submission.” All Submissions will not be acknowledged or returned. Only fully completed Submissions are eligible.

Photos Specifications:

  • Files must be uploaded in .jpg, .png or .tiff formats.
  • RGB color profile
  • Clean and non-clutter background, preferably a solid color
  • Sizes: Portrait: 8 × 10 in, 300 dpi (or the highest pixel setting on your smartphone)
  • Each applicant must submit their photo of their hair style on a clean (solid/non-distracting) background within the submission window via the submission website.
  • The final hairstyle must reflect one of the four hair texture categories.
  • Each applicant can submit up to three entries per each of the four categories.

Sponsor shall have the right to crop, adapt, and publish any or all of the Submissions, and may authorize others to do so for the purposes of the Contest and for the purpose of displaying the Photos on the Texture Style Awards site and/or on social media. By entering this Competition, entrant gives the Sponsorship an irrevocable, perpetual, worldwide royalty-free license and consent to use the Submission on the Texture Style Awards site and Texture Style Awards social media including without limitation Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, newsletters, print and online magazines, and in promotional, and advertising materials, without compensation to the entrant, his or her successors or assigns, or any other person or entity, except where prohibited by law, and entrant consents to the finished version(s) and waives any Moral Rights claim in respect to this consent. Proof of submission will not be deemed to be proof of receipt by Sponsor.

Copyright ownership in the Submissions remains vested entirely with the Entrant.. The Sponsor will make best endeavors to credit the Entrant’s Submission but is not liable for any inadvertent failure to do so or due to the neglect or fault of third parties. The Entrant is encouraged to notify the Sponsor of any omission of their credit and the Sponsor shall take reasonable steps to seek to rectify the omission but is not liable if a third party responsible and with control of publication declines or neglects to rectify the omission despite such reasonable steps taken by the Sponsor.

By entering, all entrants warrant and represent that (a) their respective Submissions are their own 100% original creations; (b) their respective Submissions do not incorporate any intellectual property from any third parties (without appropriate releases); and (c) that their submissions do not violate any rights (including any rights of privacy, trespass, nuisance, misleading and deceptive conduct, passing off, rights of publicity or copyrights) of any third parties. (d) acknowledge that where applicable these Official Rules are a consent to use adaptation and publication for purposes of the Entrant’s Moral Rights whilst the Entrant’s Moral Rights are asserted and acknowledged.

By submitting an entry, Entrants acknowledge they have read, understood and agreed to these Official Rules. All entries submitted in accordance with these Official Rules shall be hereinafter referred to as “Eligible Entries”. Entrants may win multiple prizes.

PRIVACY: The information you provide will only be used in marketing as it directly relates to MALLC, Texture Style Awards, and its identified partners. Information collected in this Contest will be used in accordance with the Sponsor’s privacy policy which may be viewed at texturestyleawards.com/privacy

PRIZES/ODDS OF WINNING: Only the Prize listed below will be awarded. Odds of winning depend on the number of eligible entries received.

One (1) Grand Prize Winner from each Category (4 categories).

Grand Prize includes:

  • 1-hr one-on-one mentorship with Sponsor ambassador
  • Submission featured on the Tease and other media partners
  • Gift bag of various tools and products valued at $750.

One (1) Second Place Prize Winner from each Category.

Second Place Prize includes:

  • Submission eligible for feature with media partners
  • Gift bag of various tools and products valued at $500.

One (1) Third Place Prize Winner from each Category.

Third Place Prize includes:

  • Submission eligible for feature with media partners
  • Gift bag of various tools and products valued at $250.

Approximate Retail Value (“ARV”) of Grand Prize: $1K. Approximate Retail Value (“ARV”) of Second Place Prize: $500. Approximate Retail Value (“ARV”) of Third Place Prize: $400K. Actual retail value may vary. Any difference between the stated ARV and actual value, if any, will not be awarded. All federal, state and local taxes and all other costs and expenses associated with the acceptance and use of a prize not specifically set forth herein as being provided is the responsibility of the Winner.

LIMITATIONS ON PRIZES. Sponsor reserves the right to substitute a prize (or portions thereof) of equal or greater value if prize (or portions thereof) cannot be awarded as described. Sponsor will determine all elements of prizes in its sole discretion. Prizes may not be assigned, transferred, changed or redeemed for cash. Sponsor reserves the right to make equivalent substitutions as necessary, due to circumstances not under its control. PRIZES ARE AWARDED “AS IS” WITH NO WARRANTY OR GUARANTEE EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. SPONSOR DISCLAIMS ALL AND ANY LIABILITY FOR THE ACTUAL PROVISION, QUALITY OR NATURE OF ANY THIRD PARTY PRODUCT OR SERVICE ACCEPTED BY THE WINNERS. Each selected entrant will also be required to sign a release form (the “Release Form”) confirming compliance with the official rules, acceptance of a prize as awarded, without substitution, and releasing the Sponsor, MALLC, their affiliated and related companies, advertising and promotional agencies, the independent Contest organization and their respective shareholders, directors, officers, employees, agents, representatives, successors and assigns (collectively, the “Released Parties”) from any liability in connection with a prize or the Contest. The Release Form must be returned within the time period specified on the Release Form or the prize will be forfeited. Delivery of the prizes will be coordinated with the winners by the Sponsor, upon receipt of the Release Form. The awarding of any prize is contingent upon full compliance with these Official Rules. Entrants agree to be bound by Official Rules.

GENERAL PRIZE RESTRICTIONS/CONDITIONS: By entering, each entrant agrees on behalf of itself and each of entrant’s heirs, executors, and administrators (A) TO RELEASE AND HOLD HARMLESS CONTEST ENTITIES, SPONSOR, ADMINISTRATOR, AND THEIR RESPECTIVE OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, AGENTS, SHAREHOLDERS, INSURERS, PARENTS, SUBSIDIARIES, DIVISIONS, AFFILIATES, PREDECESSORS, SUCCESSORS, REPRESENTATIVES, ADVERTISING, PROMOTION, AND FULFILLMENT AGENCIES, AND LEGAL ADVISORS (collectively, “Released Parties”) from any liability, illness, injury, death, loss, litigation, or damage that may occur, directly or indirectly, whether caused by negligence or not, from such entrant’s participation in the Contest and/or his/her acceptance, possession, use, or misuse of Prize or any portion thereof (including any travel related thereto); (B) that Released Parties have neither made nor are in any manner responsible or liable for any warranty, representation or guarantee express or implied, in fact or in law, with respect to any Prize, including, without limitation, to such Prize’s quality or fitness for a particular purpose; and (C) to be bound by these Official Rules and to waive any right to claim any ambiguity or error therein or in the Contest itself, and to be bound by all decisions of the Sponsor, which are binding and final. Failure to comply with these conditions may result in disqualification from the Contest at Sponsor’s sole discretion.

WINNER NOTIFICATION: Potential winners will be contacted via email by the Administrator/Agency on, or around, July 10, 2023.  Sponsor shall have no liability for any potential prize winner notification that is lost, intercepted or not received by any potential prize winner for any reason. If, despite reasonable efforts, any potential prize winner does not respond within 72 hours of the first notification attempt, or if the prize notification or Prize is returned as unclaimed or undeliverable to such potential prize winner, such potential prize winner will forfeit his or her Prize and an alternate prize winner may be If any potential prize winner is found to be ineligible, or if he or she has not complied with these Official Rules or declines a Prize for any reason prior to award, such potential prize winner will be disqualified and an alternate prize winner may be selected. The potential prizewinner must comply with all terms and conditions of these Official Rules and winning is contingent upon fulfilling all requirements.

DISQUALIFICATION: Sponsor reserves the right in its sole discretion to disqualify any individual who is found to be tampering with the entry process or the operation of the Contest, to be acting in violation of these Official Rules, or to be acting in an unsportsmanlike or disruptive manner, or with the intent to disrupt or undermine the legitimate operation of the Contest, or to annoy, abuse, threaten or harass any other person, and Sponsor reserves the right to seek damages and other remedies from any such person to the fullest extent permitted by law. No mechanically reproduced, illegible, incomplete, forged, software-generated or other automated multiple entries will be accepted. The invalidity or unenforceability of any provision of these rules shall not affect the validity or enforceability of any other provision. In the event that any provision is determined to be invalid or otherwise unenforceable or illegal, these rules shall otherwise remain in effect and shall be construed in accordance with their terms as if the invalid or illegal provision were not contained herein.

LIMITATION OF LIABILITY: The Released Parties are not responsible for, and entrant hereby releases the Released Parties from any claims arising from: (i) technical failures of any kind, including but not limited to the malfunctioning of any computer, cable, network, hardware or software; (ii) the unavailability or inaccessibility of any transmissions or telephone or Internet service; (iii) unauthorized human intervention in any part of the entry process or the Contest; (iv) electronic or human error which may occur in the administration of the Contest or the processing of entries; (v) any injury or damage to persons or property, including but not limited to entrant’s computer, hardware or software, which may be caused, directly or indirectly, in whole or in part, from entrant’s participation in the Contest and (vi) use of any Prize.

DISPUTES: Except where prohibited, entrant agrees that: (1) any and all disputes, claims and causes of action arising out of or connected with the Contest or any Prize awarded shall be resolved individually, without resort to any form of class action, and exclusively by the state of New York, (2) any and all claims, judgments and awards shall be limited to actual out-of-pocket costs incurred, including costs associated with entering the Contest, but in no event attorneys’ fees; and (3) unless otherwise prohibited, under no circumstances will entrant be permitted to obtain awards for, and entrant hereby waives all rights to claim, indirect, punitive, incidental and consequential damages and any other damages, other than for actual out-of-pocket expenses, and any and all rights to have damages multiplied or otherwise increased. All issues and questions concerning the construction, validity, interpretation and enforceability of these Official Rules, or the rights and obligations of the entrant and Sponsor in connection with the Contest shall be governed by, and construed in accordance with, the laws of the state of New York, without giving effect to any choice of law or conflict of law rules (whether of state of New York or any other jurisdiction), which would cause the application of the laws of any jurisdiction other than state of New York. Any litigation arising out of or in any way related to this Agreement shall be venued in Kings County, New York.
