Two Decades of Diversity: The Story Behind The Texture Style Awards
For 20 enriching years, I’ve been sculpting the hairstyles of the glamorous, while fiercely championing diversity in an industry too often blindsided by its importance.
Motivated by this mission, the Texture Style Awards was born. It’s more than just a competition. It’s a jubilant celebration of diversity, an expansive showcase reflecting the depth of talent within our community.
A stand for representation, a plea for inclusivity, and a milestone for change.

- 6:30 PM – Celebrate Diversity: The main event begins – the Texture Style Awards. Experience the thrill and honor as we recognize talent that embraces all hair textures.
- 9:00 PM – Party with a Purpose: Let loose and and enjoy the rooftop party! Take photos and enjoy the hors d’oeuvres and connect with the top artists in the beauty business.
- Live Entertainment – Elevate Hair Jam: Lose yourself in the rhythms of our live music event, the Elevate Hair Jam.
- Learn from the Best – Gina Bianca: Gain insights from our featured speaker, Gina Bianca, an international hair educator, salon owner, and a champion for diversity and inclusivity in the beauty industry.

2023 Advocacy Artist of the Year:
Cesar DeLeon Ramirez
Celebrity styles, creative director, influencer Cesar DeLeon Ramirez is a highly respected and innovative celebrity hairstylist who has made a significant impact in the world of fashion and beauty. He has established himself as a leading authority in hair design, regularly collaborating with some of the biggest names in fashion, entertainment, and art. As a mentor and educator, Ramirez has also helped to inspire and train the next generation of hairstylists all while using his influential social voice to advocate for veganism and anti-bullying.
2023 Beauty Editor of the Year:
Jessica Cruel
Jessica Cruel, Editor in Chief, Allure Jessica Cruel is the editor-in-chief of Allure, where she leads the development of multi-platform editorial content for digital, social, and video platforms, including the Readers’ Choice Awards and Best of Beauty Awards franchises. Cruel joined Allure in 2019, first as features director and, more recently, served as the title’s content director. In 2021, Cruel spearheaded The Melanin Edit, a new Allure platform exploring all things relating to Black beauty, skincare and wellness. Prior to joining Allure, Jessica served as deputy beauty director at Refinery29, and has also held editorial roles at SELF and Popsugar. Throughout her decade-long career in the beauty media industry, she has extended her experience to hosting podcasts, speaking at events and appearing in live television segments. A graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with degrees in multimedia journalism and sociology. Jessica currently resides in Newark,
2023 Educator of the Year:
Greg Gilmore
Owner & Founder of Modern Hairitage, INC Celebrity Colorist, HairCutting Expert, Moroccanoil Global Color Ambassador, Healthy Hair Guru. – A native of Cleveland, Ohio Greg began his career in the hair industry at the early age of 15 assisting in local Cleveland salons as a shampoo assistant. After graduating from cosmetology school in 2004, Greg spent countless hours studying the art of haircutting and coloring earning him a place on Blow Magazine’s list of Top 50 Hairstylist in Cleveland for 2008 & 2009. After relocating to Los Angeles, CA in 2010, Greg dedicated himself to excellence in education studying advanced techniques with world-renowned Paul Mitchell, L’Oréal, and Vidal Sassoon Academies, studying in London, Toronto, New York City, and Los Angeles. From his travels, he acquired 10 diplomas in advanced coloring with a focus on blonding, cutting, and education, which has made him one of the top haircutting and coloring experts for textured hair.
2023 Editorial Hairstylist of the Year:
Jawara
International hairstylist Jawara is one of the most sought-after names in fashion. The Senior Beauty Editor-at-Large of i-D Magazine has a number of notable accolades under his belt, including a British Fashion Council New Wave Creatives Award as well as Business of Fashion 500 and Dazed 100 rankings. Jawara first started his career as a salon assistant in Brooklyn when he was just 16. After graduating from the Fashion Institute of Technology and the Aveda Institute, Jawara moved to London and began assisting industry legends Guido Palau and Luigi Murenu on runway shows and shoots. It was after being mentored by icon Sam McKnight that Jawara reached the level of artistry at which he works today. When Jawara left McKnight’s team in 2013, he began working independently. His extensive knowledge and remarkably diverse skill set and range of work soon garnered the attention of many influential names, including musical talents Beyonce, Cardi B, FKA Twigs, Bella Hadid, and Solange.
